About Tokugawa Gallery
Dean Stumma is the curator and owner of the Tokugawa Gallery. His expertise in Asian art, especially in Ukiyo-e prints, comes from his educational and life experiences. He has been a connoisseur of Ukiyo-e Art for over 10 years. In addition to having three degrees in various realms of Asian history, he has lived abroad teaching, and has had the opportunity to study Asian art there. Dean has spent a great deal of time researching the various artists of woodblock prints, especially those from the Utagawa School and others from the Edo and Meji periods of Japan. His background is particularly valuable in providing information on the enriched history of Japanese prints.
This gallery is dedicated to all those who love and appreciate the art of Ukiyo-e and its historic significance in Japanese History. The gallery was established based on the love of the prints, the respect for the culture of Japan, and a strong desire to preserve the art of Ukiyo-e for future generations. All prints sold through this Gallery have been matted and framed to museum standards.
Before any print is sold through the gallery, a great deal of research is completed to ensure authenticity as well as providing as much historical information as possible. As the collection is sold, new prints will be added.
If you have a special interest in any particular artist of woodblock prints during the Edo and Meji periods, and would like to know what we have available for sale for that artist, please feel free to surf through the gallery.
